MusicMakers.io

Why are we doing MusicMakers? According to a report from the National Endowment for the Arts, a 2015 survey of 140,000 graduates, conducted by the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP), found that half of arts graduates made over 60 percent of their income from their artistic practice alone. In 2003, Pew Research Center found that only 7 percent of artists earn all their income from their art.  Most recently,  the Music Industry Research Association (MIRA) and the Princeton University Survey Research Center, in partnership with MusiCares, conducted a survey of 1,227 musicians in the U.S. in 2018.  They found that the average American musician earns income from 3.5 music-related activities per year.   The median musician in the U.S. earns between $20,000 and $25,000 a year.

Bottomline: 50% of arts graduates and only 7% of ALL artists make an average of $22,500 a year from 3.5 revenue streams.  This is effectively an hourly wage of $11.25/hr (drastically lower than the minimum wage of most states).  The biggest fear is actually about those not represented in these figures who would be closer to FPL without their non-music activities.

The NEA recommended addressing the income insecurity of artists, creating a modern training system, and assisting an artist with building their assets. With music career development, more MusicMakers can be out in the world creating art and living their dream. We’ve designed a program to help artists to define their brand, tell their story, expand their revenue streams, and maintain a healthy work/life balance.

MusicMakers.io is a professional development platform and workshop series that helps artists to tell their story, define their brand and to expand their revenue, all while maintaining a healthy work/life balance.  We offer keynote speeches and panel discussions on branding, marketing, booking, publishing, copyright law, health, and self-care. Break-out sessions allow attendees to work in small groups with music professionals in all of these areas.

Our goal is to create a platform and interactive series, LinkedIn meets TedX for music, which is paired with a personalized online curriculum, workbook, peer counseling and mentorship and that will guide our users to the creation of their own personal career strategic roadmap and monetization strategy.
